Do you use Last.fm?

I only recently discovered the point in having an account with Last.fm. Before then, I only used it for the odd song I wanted to listen to online.

But I see why its so good to sign up to now. Basically, when you sign up you get your own page where you can put up a whole load of statistics on what music you like, how much you listen to it, make playlists and “love” songs. It’s really good for anyone who listens to a lot of music.

You may have noticed the widgets I have added to the GEEK! sidebar. They are from last.fm and the top one shows what I have recently listened to to, and the bottom one shows what artists I like.

You can easily install the program that Last.fm provide, which will monitor all the music you are listening to, and what you’ve listened to in the past. It support Windows Media Player, iTunes, and I think Winamp as well as a couple of other music players. You can have the program upload the artists you listen to from one of the players you use, straight to your page.

It’s a great site for any music lover, and it is FREE. I do wish you could add it via FTP to your own domain, that would be awesome, but for now its good anyway.

I will be adding it to the Resources page (soon to be renamed).

Do you ever take screenshots?

If you do take lots of screenshots, why not try Window Clippings which is a fantastic program which helps you take proffesional screenshots.

You can even get plugins which add extra features like automatically uploading to your website via FTP which can be very useful.

It’s not a free program but there is a free trial and it’s not exactly expensive baring in mind you get free updates for ever.

Try it, and I promise you if you like taking screenshots, this program will be very useful to you.

Have you tried Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta?

Recently I was told Microsoft has launched a public beta for WLM 9. So I decided to check it out and see what had changed.

And as far as I am aware, Microsoft has generally concentrated on the interface (at long last) and has made some massive improvements.

Here are some of my favourites:

  • You can now post links on your personal message.
  • You can now add a theme to your conversation windows specific to you.
  • You can now make a custom sound that people hear when you sign in.
  • The What’s New footer shows what people have recently done on their accounts.
  • You can now sign in on multiple computers without affecting users (this feature can be disallowed if preferred)
  • You can now edit your personal message whilst what you are listening to is showing.

If you haven’t tried it yet, download the beta at http://download.live.com/messenger
