I mentioned in the post Randomize your desktop with Desktoptopia! about changing boring wallpapers every so often. But if you don’t like random wallpapers, I’ve got a great site here that was found by a friend with some great wallpapers for your desktop.

The site to go to is http://www.interfacelift.com.

There’s hundreds of excellent wallpapers there and you can download them in all sorts of resolutions for all types of monitors.

Check it out for a fresh look to your desktop.

Have you tried Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta?

Recently I was told Microsoft has launched a public beta for WLM 9. So I decided to check it out and see what had changed.

And as far as I am aware, Microsoft has generally concentrated on the interface (at long last) and has made some massive improvements.

Here are some of my favourites:

  • You can now post links on your personal message.
  • You can now add a theme to your conversation windows specific to you.
  • You can now make a custom sound that people hear when you sign in.
  • The What’s New footer shows what people have recently done on their accounts.
  • You can now sign in on multiple computers without affecting users (this feature can be disallowed if preferred)
  • You can now edit your personal message whilst what you are listening to is showing.

If you haven’t tried it yet, download the beta at http://download.live.com/messenger

Randomize your desktop with Desktoptopia!

You ever booted up your computer thinking how bored you are of the wallpaper that appears on your screen every time you look at your desktop?

Well with Desktoptopia, which is available for Mac and Windows (in BETA), you can randomise your wallpaper depending on what genre you choose and how often you want it to change.

You can even rate wallpapers and stop wallpapers you don’t like from appearing again.

Check it out now at www.desktoptopia.com

And, if you’ve got your own wallpapers you’d like to upload, you can do that on the site too!

OpenOffice or Microsoft Office?

For me, it’s always been Microsoft Office. Only because I’ve had it ever since I started with computers and I’m too used to having all the features.

However, for some people it might be a great alternative to spending hard earned cash on Microsoft.

OpenOffice is basically just an opensource free version of Microsoft’s Office. It does most of the things that Microsoft’s does, but its totally free. Admittedly it doesn’t look as nice as Office 2007, but for people who are reluctant to spend money and need a decent office suite, this is perfect!

It’s available for Windows, Linux, Mac and many other distrobutions too. And with OpenOffice 3.0 coming around the corner, it may well become even better. OpenOffice 3.0 Release Candidate 2 is available for download now here – so if you like trying software, do so. You might well find it’s better for you altogether.

What do you think about Google Chrome?

As I mentioned in the post Is Internet Explorer 8 worth it?, I love Google Chrome. It’s such a fast browser, only crashes in rare occasions (despite the fact it’s in BETA) and I love the new tab management.

There are things Google could do to improve it, of course. But that’s the same with most software. I rarely find any program that is absolutely perfect for me.

What are your thoughts on it, could it be improved?
